What was the purpose of replicating this music video?
The purpose of replicating a music video was to focus on the conventions of a music video to explore the shots and the speed of those shots and how they create the mood for the music video. We also wanted to also learn all the conventions and the speed of the clip along side with lip syncing so that when it comes to making our music video we can improve upon that with the lip syncing.
How successful do you feel you were in replicating this music video?
I think that our project is very similar to the original and have tried our best to match it exactly by making props, buying costumes etc. we did this by paying a lot of attention to detail; for example the McDonald's cup our main character was holding in the first couple of shots.Although we have a lot of good area to refer to in our music video we also have some areas in which we can improve next time; for example to shot some high shot we would have instead a long shot because due to filming restrictions we could not rise the tripod any higher, the only way to get a high hot would be to stand on something perhaps a chair or table. These types of shots were a problem but most of the rest we shot them exactly the same like the shots in the original music video. We also had some problems with the lighting in the dark scene but this was due to the camera settings. We would set it up but as soon as we would record it would go darker so we could not get the exact lighting even though when we took because of the flash the lighting was perfect. However we did manage to create the same tinted blue light in the meeting room which part of the editing although we could of been really specific if we had had someone switching on and of the lights during the filming of the meeting room.
What changes would you make to your; organisation, editing and filming?
If we were to try and replicate this video we would change the shots for example maybe have a tripod that would be able to rise a bit more or stand on a stool to be able to replicate the high shots in this video.We would also try to improve our lighting techniques next time we could of improve the lighting by using more lights maybe from the cameras point of view ad keep playing with the lights till we find the right light to shoot. We learnt that playing the video whilst filming was helpful because we were able to see exactly what shot we need but also to see how the actor was moving at what part of the song, we only did this in some parts of the dark scene because we were able to playing the music video on the projector whilst filming. This would also help the actor s lip sync to the song whilst acting. Editing wise we could of place the actual music video on imovie first in order to cop it exact and get the same lengths of the shots.
